Davey ( Rosco’s Dad) completed the Belfast Marathon today in 4 hrs 37mins. This was his first time ever doing this and at the age of 54 it certainly wasnt easy!Davey was running to raise money for Sophie (Rosco’s Daughter) who was born with a condition called Microtia which meant her ears were not fully formed and is unable to hear properly without a hearing aid. So she will need quite a few operations as she grows up and thats why we have made an early start to raise the funds. Thanks to all who sponsored and please check back for info on further fundraising events.

Irish NPS round 1 2011 – Rostrevor

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

The first round of the 2011 Irish downhill MTB NPS in Rostervor is now over.  Some seriously competitive racing took place on the super gnarly track.  Apparently 20 riders per day were recommended to go to casualty by the paramedics.  That gives you around a 1 in 6 chance of visiting the hospital if you competed in this race!

The full Rosco Lines team was there ready to take on the track with Colin Ross and Michael Boyd in the Elite class, and myself (Andy Yoong) riding masters.  Saturday’s practice did not go without some team incidents with Colin Ross crashing out.  He manage to clip a pedal on a rock making him do a 180 spin, flipping backwards about 5 feet in the air and landing on a pile of rocks.  His bike then landed on top of him, bruising his ribs and winding him for a few minutes.  After checks for spleen injuries he was ready to roll for the next day, with the occasional muscle spasm!  Michael and I got off lightly that day with a few minor crashes but nothing serious.

Onto race day and Colin was feeling the pain after the previous days crash but struggled on.  I was the first rider off in the team and managed to get in a steady enough run except for my rear mech failing.  I had to keep the pedals turning over the jumps for fear of the chain locking up the back wheel which didn’t make things easy but still managed to get the fastest masters time after run 1.

Michael Boyd was next off.  He didn’t fair so well.  Michael was going super quick in practice but clipped a pedal going into a jump on his race run and went over the bars quite badly.  People who saw the crash said it was one of the worst they had ever seen.  He landed on his head giving him mild concussion and also received some other injuries which meant he could not do his second run.  Michael was really out of it after the crash.  Lets hope he feels better soon.

Onto Colin Ross who had a steady first run and came in with a time of 2:17, putting him around 8th place in Elites.  I don’t think he was happy with his run and his injuries were definitely having an effect on him.

Onto the second runs and my chain snapped half way down the track.  I knew the track had dried out a bit and was faster so was worried that 2nd place Nigel Page might have beat my time. I was luck enough to hold onto first place by .2 of a second.

Colin didn’t manage to beat his first run time and came down with a final position of 8th in Elites.  It is to be noted that the Chain Reaction World Cup team were in attendance making Colin’s result still very respectable.

So that’s about it.  Thanks to all involved and helped out with the team on the weekend, to the race organisers, and to our sponsors.  Roll on round 2

Michael’s Bike Wired Up!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Michael has been doing some interesting testing on his suspension set up for the race track at rostrevor this weekend. Mylie from Weldon Suspension has had some rods wired in to the computer to measure the suspension travel, rebound speed and compression speed for the entire track. Mylie has been working close with michael to enable him to learn fast about suspension set up with being so new to the sport and hopefully this will pay off at the first round this weekend!
